Playscript is an independent producer for theatre and video. Its work has involved over 80 artists in different capacities, and has been performed or screened in four countries and five states of Australia.
Playscript seeks a contemporary style, that is both entertaining and of high quality, but also an inquiry into values and meanings relevant to modern audiences. It has a particular interest in Australian identity and history, seeking a progressive and inclusive account of this country and its place in the world. Playscript also produces work that capture the comedy of everyday experience and manners. Its productions have used contemporary methods, including multi form expression and early (yr. 2000) use of image projection.
Theatre venues include Riverside Theatres Sydney, Holden Street Theatre Adelaide, La Mama Melbourne, 107 Redfern, Music Lounge Wollongong, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney, Powerhouse Museum Sydney, National Gallery of Victoria, James Fairfax Theatre Canberra, Centrul de Cultură “George Apostu” Bacău Romania, Excelsior Centre Thirroul, Tap Gallery Sydney, Chapel by the Sea Bondi, Inculise Bucharest, National People’s Theatre Sofia and Theatre Bacovia Bacau. Videos have been broadcast on ABC, SBS, Fox and Arts NZ, and widely screened and distributed, in Galleries, public venues and schools.
Its creative director is Geoffrey Sykes.
